A Journey Across Canada.
A Story About What It Means to Keep Going.
5,575 kilometres.
Victoria to Halifax.
One length. One kilometre. One day at a time.
The Great Canadian Swim is Stephanie Manica’s journey to swim the equivalent of Canada’s width in a pool, following a virtual route from Victoria, British Columbia to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
But the distance is only part of the story.
The real journey is what happens when you keep showing up.
One Length At A Time
Some challenges are too big to conquer all at once.
So Stephanie breaks this one down into the simplest measure: one length.
As a former competitive synchronized swimmer, the water has always represented discipline, challenge, freedom, and possibility.
The route may be virtual.
The commitment is real.
Every kilometre moves Stephanie closer to Halifax, and turns the impossible distance into something measurable, one swim at a time.
More Than A Swim
The Great Canadian Swim began as a personal challenge and a way to raise awareness and support for iPOTS.
It has become something bigger.
A story about disability.
A story about resilience.
A story about perseverance.
A story about continuing when the path doesn’t go according to plan.
Because everyone has a distance they’re trying to cross.
A business they’re building.
A setback they’re recovering from.
A dream they’re not ready to abandon.
A challenge nobody else can see.
What would happen if you kept trying?
The Journey Isn’t Always Linear
Not every swim is going to be your strongest.
Not every day will go according to plan.
And sometimes, moving forward means pausing, recovering, and beginning again.
In 2026, Stephanie’s own journey was interrupted with a cardiac episode, and then later by a knee injury, temporarily taking her out of the pool.
The kilometres stopped.
The mission didn’t.
The route didn’t disappear.
The destination didn’t change.
The journey simply entered a different chapter.
Because resilience isn’t about never stopping.
It’s about believing you can begin again.

Victoria to Halifax
One swimmer.
One country.
One extraordinary journey.
And one message at the heart of it all: TRYING COUNTS.
